As a coach, you’re always looking for an edge… A way to make your practices more engaging and effective so your team can get to that coveted next level. If you can relate, then you should check out our brand-new product: [How to Run Championship Practices with Coach Nate Steege](. And to help prepare you for the season, I also want to share 3 core tenets of Coach Steege’s practice philosophy that come directly from this new program. Because they’ve played a big part in his impressive coaching track record–including 11 State Tournament appearances and 2 State Championships! These nuggets of wisdom you read below can be small yet powerful needle-movers to help transform your practices this upcoming season. 1 - Handle Bad Practices with a “Reset” Bad practices happen to every coach, no matter how experienced they are. The key isn’t to avoid them entirely—that’s impossible—but to know how to respond when they occur. Coach Steege has found that the best approach is to take a step back and reset the energy and focus of the practice. If things aren’t going well 15, 20, or even 30 minutes in, don’t let frustration take over. Instead, call your team to the center circle for a quick regroup. Use this time to remind them of the day’s goals and challenge them to elevate their performance. Sometimes, all it takes is a brief moment of reflection and encouragement to turn the practice around. Coach Steege also suggests giving your players a chance to talk to each other during this reset. This peer-to-peer communication can often reignite their focus and energy in a way that a coach’s voice might not. And if that doesn’t work, there’s always the tried-and-true method of putting them on the endline for a few sprints. While Coach Steege isn’t a huge fan of conditioning for conditioning’s sake, a little old-school tough love can sometimes be just what the team needs to snap out of a funk. The important thing is to view a reset as a tool to refocus and re-energize your players, rather than a sign of failure. 2 - Transform Your Assistant Coaches into Experts & Make Your Life Easier One of Coach Steege’s core beliefs is that: “You’re only as good as your assistant coaches.” But there’s a catch—your assistants are only as good as you allow them to be. To truly leverage their potential, Coach Steege assigns his assistants specific roles in every drill. For example, if the team is working on defense, he might assign one assistant to focus solely on boxing out, while another tracks the guards’ rotations. By giving each coach a clear, focused responsibility, you empower them to become experts in that area. This strategy not only improves the quality of your drills but also makes your life easier. When assistants have defined roles, they take ownership of those areas, freeing you up to focus on the bigger picture. Coach Steege also involves his assistants heavily in scouting reports, with each coach responsible for different aspects like out-of-bounds plays or specific sets. Again, he makes the assistant coaches the “expert” on some pieces of the scouting report. This helps them grow and earn the respect of the team. 3 - Integrate the “One Chance” Philosophy One of Coach Steege’s more unconventional strategies is the “One Chance” philosophy. During certain segments of practice, players have just one chance to execute a play correctly. There’s no do-over, no second attempt—whether they get it right or wrong, they move on immediately. He takes this approach because it mirrors the reality of game situations, where players don’t get a second chance to make a play. By incorporating this into practice at random spots, you create a high-stakes environment that forces players to focus intently on their roles. The “One Chance” philosophy can be used daily or occasionally, but when sprinkled into practices, it can significantly raise the intensity and execution level of your team. And it is one of the reason’s Coach Steege’s teams are known to execute well come crunch time of BIG games! --------------------------------------------------------------- There you have it… These are just a few of the countless strategies that have made Coach Steege one of the most successful coaches in the game. So if you’re ready to dive deeper into his methods and add 23 championship-level drills to your practice arsenal… Then you won’t want to miss the special launch discount for our new product: [Access the NEW How to Run Championship Practices with Nate Steege for just $49 $39!]( All the best,  Joe Haefner Breakthrough Basketball  This email was sent to {EMAIL} because you indicated that you'd like to receive emails and updates from Breakthrough Basketball on 2016-12-16 05:42:39.
