Happy Thanksgiving!

May God sustain your continued work for justice in our food systems. Dear Friend, At Bread for the Word, we give thanks for you and all you do to ensure everyone has a place at the table. We offer this prayer for you to share at your Thanksgiving meal this year. God of Abundance, This Thanksgiving Day, we see the gifts of your bounty in the food on our tables, in the loved ones gathered, in the rest from our daily labors. We give thanks for the hands of workers who tended the turkeys, picked the potatoes, the beans, and the squash, packed them and processed them, and brought them to our grocery stores, our doors, our foodbanks, and our food pantries. We give thanks for the hands that prepared our feasts. And yet we know that some of us will go back to hungry days very soon. When the feast is over, friends and family gone, the sun sets on this day of rest, the daily struggles return. We know some of us won’t have this day to rest because we are serving others. On this day of thanksgiving, let us pause to give thanks to you, O God. As we fill our bellies with food and our hearts with love, fill our wills with determination to work for justice in our food systems. Damos gracias por las manos de los trabajadores que cuidaron de los pavos, recogieron las patatas, los frijoles y las calabazas, los empaquetaron, los procesaron, y los llevaron a nuestras tiendas de comestibles, a nuestros hogares, a nuestros bancos de alimentos, y a nuestras despensas. Damos gracias por las manos que prepararon nuestros banquetes. Y, sin embargo, sabemos que algunos de nosotros volveremos a tener hambre muy pronto. Cuando la celebración termine y los amigos y la familia se marchen, cuando el sol se ponga al final de este día de descanso, regresarán las luchas diarias. Sabemos que algunos de nosotros no tendremos este día para descansar porque estamos sirviendo a los demás. En este día de Acción de Gracias, hagamos una pausa para darte gracias, oh Dios.
