We know how to reduce hunger in the U.S. What’s needed is the collective will to do it. October 27, 2023 / [SUBSCRIBE]( / [FACEBOOK]( / [TWITTER]( [U.S. Food Insecurity Increased in 2022]( According to a new report released today by the USDA, in 2022 the prevalence of food insecurity among households in the U.S. was “statistically significantly higher” than 2021. This includes households with children experiencing “low” or “very low” food insecurity. Yet this is avoidable. We know how to reduce hunger in the U.S. What’s needed is the collective will to do it. [Read Bread’s statement](. SPOTLIGHT Last month, Bread for the World sent an urgent action alert asking supporters to contact your representative and tell them to vote "no" on proposals that would have dramatically increased hunger among millions of vulnerable children and families. It worked and the House of Representatives rejected the proposal. Thank you to everyone who responded! [Ending Hunger Calls for Bipartisan Cooperation in Congress]( As the hour of the U.S. government shutdown neared on September 30, Bread members mobilized to urge their elected leaders to pass a budget to keep the government running. The risk of a government shutdown remains since the current agreement expires on November 17, so we need to continue to remind Congress of the global hunger crisis and other urgent needs that depend on good faith, bipartisan efforts to ensure that U.S. politics no longer serves as another driver of hunger. [Spreading Cheer, Ending Hunger]( This year you have the opportunity to purchase Christmas cards from Bread for the World, with the proceeds going to support our work together to end hunger. Two new designs were created especially with Bread for the World’s members in mind. Ten cards and envelopes cost only $20, including shipping. Some Christmas card designs from previous years are also still available. [Click here to view the full selection of cards available and to place your order](. Act now! The deadline to order is December 4th! --------------------------------------------------------------- BREAD IN THE NEWS Bread for the World Senior Domestic Policy Advisor Todd Post was interviewed for an article [published by the Washington Post]( about the rise of food insecurity in the U.S. Bread for the World President and CEO Rev.
