Your representative could decide the fate of U.S. international food assistance funding. Friend, The House of Representatives is planning to vote today on legislation that would drastically cut international food aid programs, including Food for Peace (by 70 percent) and the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. [Please act now and urge your representative to vote “NO” on H.R. 4368]( the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. [ACT NOW]( We are in the midst of a global hunger crisis. As many as 783 million people go to bed hungry every night and an estimated 45 million children under 5 years of age suffer from acute (severe) malnutrition. The proposed 70 percent cut to Food for Peace would be catastrophic and result in countless deaths. Food for Peace is one of the U.S. government’s most important global food assistance programs. In the more than 60 years since it began, the program has reached approximately four billion people in 150 countries with both emergency support and resilience-building programs. McGovern-Dole funds improve nutrition and maternal health in the critical first 1,000 days before a child’s second birthday and boost literacy rates by incentivizing families to keep their children in school. [Please email your representative now and urge them to vote “NO” on H.R. 4368]( the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
