My friend, here’s how you can help make lasting change. [View in Browser]( [Bread for the World]( [Smiling boy with text: Alert, Your gift will be tripled! Button with text: Have 3X the Impact]( Friend, No one – especially a child – should have to skip a meal or go to bed hungry, but I know firsthand how fragile life can be. That’s why our work at Bread for the World is so important – and that’s why our Summer Matching Gift Challenge can make such a difference for people struggling with hunger at home and abroad. [Thanks to our $250,000 match, your generous contribution to Bread today will be TRIPLED.]( I know what a difference your donation makes. I wasn’t born into poverty, but when I was nine years old, there was a family emergency. Suddenly, I was responsible for both myself and my five-year-old brother. The safety net that we thought we had was yanked out from under us. Everything we’ve built up, everything we’ve worked towards, every system can just fall apart at any moment in time. I lived it. I felt it. And that’s not something any child should ever experience. My brother and I were sleeping on the streets and eating food out of the trash until my grandmother found us. She also didn’t have a way to pay for food, so we turned to the government in Puerto Rico for support. We received the Nutritional Assistance Program (NAP) to help with groceries and food while my brother and I were finishing elementary school. Today, my experiences inform my work and everything I do as the Northeast Regional Organizer at Bread. Bread found early on that the best way to enact change was through people’s voices coming together in a unified message to our elected leaders to change policies and end hunger. And we’ve seen time and time again that the work that you have done has made lasting change, from WIC legislation to global malnutrition. We’ve seen hundreds of thousands of people’s lives change, and we’ve moved the needle in Congress. Giving to Bread means that you are supporting the work that hundreds of leaders are doing in order to enact change for their local communities. It means making sure we can keep Congress accountable for the promises that they make to their constituents. Giving to Bread means finding a way to help end hunger. [And if you give before August 15, your gift will be matched to have 3X the impact on this life-changing work!]( Thank you so much for your support today – it truly makes a difference.
