PLUS: Wear Orange, ASK Day, and Victory in Hawaii Why would our nation’s lawmakers make it easier for mass shooters to gain access to weapons of war? It’s appalling that we even have to ask this question, {NAME}. But right now, NRA-backed politicians are trying to make this our reality by advancing H.J. Res. 44/S.J. Res. 20 — a resolution that would reverse President Biden's federal rule to regulate "stabilizing braces.” These “stabilizing braces” are used to turn pistols into illegal short-barreled rifles, making it easier for mass shooters to access weapons of war. Stabilizing braces were originally designed to assist gun owners with disabilities. But gun manufacturers and buyers have misused and misbranded accessories as “stabilizing braces” to circumvent federal regulations. Such braces have dire consequences for our public safety. In fact, the mass shooters in Nashville, TN, Colorado Springs, CO, Boulder, CO, and Dayton, OH, used a “stabilizing brace” to increase the lethality of their attack — killing as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. And even in light of these tragedies — and the spate of mass shootings in 2023 — NRA-backed politicians are still trying to advance this reckless resolution. Make no mistake: If this resolution passes, it would put us all in increased danger of mass shootings. [We cannot allow this to happen — and that’s why we’re reaching out today, {NAME}. Will you urge Congress to OPPOSE H.J. Res. 44/S.J. Res. 20? Your support will help us push back on the gun lobby and its allies and send a clear message that we shouldn’t make it easier for mass shooters to gain access to weapons of war.]( [EMAIL CONGRESS ]( Thank you, Team Brady   #WearOrange and Recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Month June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month. In 2013, 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in Chicago. Just one week earlier, Hadiya performed with her high school majorette squad at President Obama's second inaugural parade. In response to her death, Hadiya's friends asked others to wear orange to raise awareness about gun violence. Gun violence prevention advocates and organizations have taken up the color orange as the color of gun violence awareness and the first Friday in June is now considered National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
