Email Speaker Carl Heastie We need your support right now, {NAME}. This is our LAST chance to help advance A2893, life-saving legislation that will tap into Medicaid to fund violence prevention and hospital intervention programs in our state. These programs promote healing and recovery, reduce the risk of gun violence, and break devastating cycles of violence that disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities in New York. The money to fund these programs already exists, which means this solution will have a low financial impact on our state. [Will you urge New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to add A2893 to the Assembly calendar? We must show him an outpouring of support NOW if we want this bill to advance to a vote!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( Thank you, Brady New York ------------Forwarded Message--------------- Sender: Brady New York Date: June 2, 2023 Subject: ACTION ALERT: Help Prevent Gun Violence BEFORE it Happens {NAME}, we need your help advancing a life-saving bill (A2893) to address the public health and racial equity crisis of gun violence in New York. Gun violence is the leading cause of death and injury for young Black men and boys, and this violence, including the physical and mental toll it takes, demands an effective response from our state’s healthcare system. A2893 is one of these important solutions. This bill will tap into Medicaid to fund violence prevention and hospital intervention programs in our state. These programs promote healing and recovery, reduce the risk of gun violence, and break cycles of violence — especially in Black and Brown communities that face the brunt of gun violence. The money to fund these programs already exists, which means this solution will have a low financial impact on our state. [But here’s the thing: We’re facing opposition and need to show lawmakers an outpouring of support for this bill before the vote NEXT week. Will you join us? Please urge your New York Assemblymember to vote YES on A2893!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( Most healthcare systems fail to address violently injured patients’ risks of being injured again after they leave the hospital. In turn, this creates a revolving door of violent injury, untreated trauma, and violent retaliations. Additionally, trauma centers often see the same victims of violence repeatedly, which costs our state millions of dollars each year. That’s why A2893 is so important, {NAME}. Sustained investments in violence prevention services are effective at promoting trauma recovery and reducing the risk of violent re-injury. Research also tells us that these programs have the potential to be highly cost-effective: They can save money for hospitals, insurers of high-risk patient populations, and societal stakeholders. [We have the chance to meet the needs of our communities, help break devastating cycles of violence, and save our state millions of dollars with this bill. So, please, urge your assembly member to vote YES on this life-saving legislation.]( [TAKE ACTION ]( In solidarity, Brady New York   [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( Brady 840 First Street, NE Suite 400 Washington, DC 20002 United States Thank you for supporting Brady and our work to prevent gun violence and save lives.
