But gun manufacturers have redesigned and misbranded accessories as “stabilizing braces” in order to circumvent regulations, putting profits over people and allowing mass shooters to more easily access dangerous weapons. A “stabilizing brace” was used in Nashville, TN, this year, when three children and three adults were killed at their school. A “stabilizing brace” allowed the Colorado Springs shooter to kill five people and injure 25 in only minutes. A “stabilizing brace” was used by the shooter who killed 10 people in Boulder, CO, and in Dayton, OH, to kill 9 and injure 26 more in just 32 seconds. In far too many recent tragedies, mass shooters have used pistols paired with “stabilizing braces” to make them more lethal, essentially creating a portable, concealable assault rifle. Despite this, the gun lobby is ramping up their efforts to reverse President Biden’s rule and we expect a House vote on the deadly resolution as soon as this week.
