By trying to stop this ban, the gun industry is once again putting profits over safety. — Brady Chief Legal Officer Douglas Letter GOOD NEWS: This week, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a gun industry request to halt a ban on assault weapons in Illinois and a ban on the commercial sale of assault weapons in the city of Naperville, IL. These laws, which are supported by the majority of Illinois residents, were passed in the aftermath of the deadly July 4 shooting in Highland Park, IL, when a gunman used an assault weapon to kill seven and injure nearly 50 others, including children. While the gun industry’s deadly agenda continues to put profits over people, states and cities should have the right to protect their residents from the devastation of these weapons of war. Brady’s legal team represents the city of Naperville, and we are behind the entire state of Illinois in their efforts to protect public safety and save lives from these deadly weapons. But we know this fight is not over. With the gun industry being denied a request for an emergency injunction from the Supreme Court, the gun industry’s case will now head back to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
