Stabilizing braces were originally designed to assist disabled shooters, but now, many gun manufacturers are selling accessories misbranded as âstabilizing bracesâ to circumvent regulations, allowing a gunman to turn a pistol into a more dangerous short-barreled rifle â an assault weapon. A âstabilizing braceâ allowed the Colorado Springs shooter to kill five people and injure 25 others in only minutes. A âstabilizing braceâ was used by the shooter who killed 10 people in Boulder, CO, and in Dayton, OH, to kill 9 and injure 26 more in just 32 seconds. Mass shooters have taken advantage of this gun industry manipulation, to make their firearms more concealable, maneuverable, and lethal, essentially creating a portable assault rifle. This resolution would make it easier for mass shooters to access deadly weapons and its passage will have deadly consequences.
