Nearly three decades later, we know Jim and Sarah would be proud of the results. Since 1994, the Brady Background Check system has blocked over 4.5 million transfers of firearms to prohibited purchasers, helping save countless lives. But our work isn’t finished yet. In America, 1 in 5 guns are still sold without a Brady Background Check, including at gun shows and online. Last year, the U.S. House passed legislation to address these loopholes by strengthening and expanding Brady Background Checks. But NRA-backed politicians in the Senate refused to support the legislation even though over 90% of Americans support expanding background checks. [And that’s why I’m reaching out today, {NAME}.
