PLUS: Ghost gun rule & Maxwell Frost {NAME}, Summer is winding down — and that means students are enjoying the final days of vacation, squeezing in one last music festival trip, and preparing for the school year ahead. But what was once my favorite time of year has turned into a waking nightmare for countless students and teachers across America. You see, our classrooms have turned into battlefields instead of places of learning. There have been 27 school shootings this year alone, including the unconscionable tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. And yet even after 21 children and educators were senselessly gunned down in their classroom, too many of our elected leaders are focusing on the wrong solutions. One North Carolina school district responded to the tragedy in Uvalde by arming school officers with AR-15s. Some Texas educators can already carry concealed firearms in the classroom. And bulletproof backpacks are the newest item on some parents’ shopping lists this year. {NAME}, these ‘solutions’ are a slap in the face to students like me. Guns are already the leading cause of death for children in America. Do our elected leaders seriously think that more guns will protect us? As a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, I am here to tell you that our elected leaders have failed America’s youth by not addressing school shootings. From Columbine to Parkland and Uvalde, it seems like every year we’re rocked by another mass shooting — not to mention the gun violence that disproportionately plagues Black and Brown communities each and every day. And while NRA-backed politicians are quick to offer ‘thoughts and prayers,’ they never take real action to address this growing crisis. Instead, they stuff their pockets with blood money and mislead Americans to think that this public health crisis is not preventable. [If you’ve had ENOUGH of children fearing being shot and killed in our schools, I ask that you join me in taking action right now, {NAME}. Brady and Team ENOUGH are demanding that our elected officials protect us from senseless gun violence. Will you join us by sending a message to Congress today? We have no time to waste: Congress must address this crisis before students and educators are back to school.]( [TAKE ACTION ]( It’s time our elected officials prioritize our safety. [Please, help me ensure Congress takes action before another life is lost to this preventable crisis.]( In solidarity, Aalayah Eastmond Gun Violence Survivor Team ENOUGH Executive Council   VICTORY: President Biden’s Rule to Regulate Homemade “Ghost Guns” Goes Into Effect For too long, anyone with a credit card has been able to evade a background check and buy a kit to make a homemade “ghost gun” — allowing them to assemble an untraceable firearm in under an hour. Well, that changed this week. On Wednesday, President Biden’s [rule to regulate ghost guns went into effect]( meaning these homemade weapons will finally be considered firearms under federal law and will no longer be untraceable or unregulated. We’ve been working tirelessly for this sensible solution. Brady helped drive thousands of comments in support of this life-saving rule. As recently as this week, we helped defend it in the courts against gun industry challenges. This rule builds on our state legislative wins against ghost guns in California, New York, Delaware, and Maryland. We thank President Biden for taking bold action to prevent the proliferation of ghost guns. This rule will save lives. Please join us in celebrating this major victory for public safety!
