PLUS: Remembering J.R. & Advocacy Week! This isn’t good news, {NAME}: What this really means is that Ohioans can carry concealed firearms in public spaces WITHOUT a permit, background check, or gun safety training. This reckless law promotes the opposite of gun safety and should concern all Americans, and let me explain why, {NAME}.Right now, the U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to rule on an NRA-backed case that has the potential to allow the concealed carrying of firearms in EVERY state, not just Ohio. That means — if the NRA gets the Supreme Court ruling it desires — citizens would be free to carry firearms in our neighborhoods, places of worship, shopping centers, and more. This case has the potential to undermine countless state and local gun safety laws that we’ve fought for years to enact. It would be the NRA's and Second Amendment extremists’ dream come true. Why? Because fewer gun laws means more guns everywhere, which equals more gun sales for the multi-billion dollar gun industry and the politicians who are bankrolled by it. But make no mistake, we know that more firearms in public places — especially in times of conflict or confrontation — is a recipe for disaster. Just last year on the streets of Kenosha, WI, two people were shot and killed while protesting. Our neighborhoods should not feel like a warzone, {NAME}, and our First Amendment rights shouldn’t be threatened by our Second Amendment rights… It’s why Brady is fighting tirelessly against the NRA’s “guns everywhere agenda.” We submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court, defending all Americans' constitutional right to live without the fear of being shot and killed. While we know we can't make a decision for the Supreme Court, we have to make it clear that common-sense gun safety laws are not at odds with Second Amendment rights and that the majority of Americans support bipartisan gun safety laws that save lives. Gustafson — Brady Legal Continues to Demand Justice Tomorrow marks six years since 13-year-old J.R. Gustafson was shot and killed in an unintentional shooting.
