A weekly wrap up of Brady news We're still excited about the news from last week — and so shoul

A weekly wrap up of Brady news We're still excited about the news from last week — and so should you, {NAME}. That's right — a judge dismissed the NRA’s attempt to claim bankruptcy and avoid accountability. We've fought for decades to end the NRA’s stranglehold on our democracy. Now we are closer than ever before. After Jim Brady was shot in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan, he and his wife, Sarah, made it their life's mission to defeat the NRA. They were gun owners and Republicans themselves. And they knew that the NRA doesn't represent gun owners. They knew it serves just one purpose: to make the gun industry rich, at the cost of American lives. For too long, the NRA has cheated U.S. taxpayers in pursuit of an extremist agenda that has made our country less safe — and last week’s court decision reaffirmed that. Now, the NRA will finally have to face the consequences of their deadly actions, which could mean the dissolution of the NRA, once and for all. New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit seeks to dissolve the NRA entirely for misusing funds from their donors, like the thousands of dollars Wayne LaPierre spent on designer Italian suits or private jet trips to the Bahamas. But we know that the NRA won't stop fighting now — especially in court. For decades, they've proven that they will stop at nothing to avoid accountability in pursuit of their reckless “people over profits” agenda. [Will you sign our petition to dissolve the NRA? We need to build support amongst gun owners and non-gun owners alike if we want to deal the NRA their final blow. Please, add your name now!]( [DISSOLVE THE NRA ]( Thank you for taking action with Brady. Our fight for accountability against the NRA has been 40 years in the making. This is our chance. This increase in anti-Asian violence has touched the district Rep. Grace Meng (NY- 6) represents in devastating ways, and these violent threats are not limited to New York — they have reached all corners of the nation. Please join us on Monday, May 24, at 6 p.m. ET to hear Rep. Meng and Brady President Kris Brown address how this increase in hate crimes is impacting the AAPI community and what efforts are being made to stop the violence. [RSVP ]( [SHARE OUR EVENT!]( Urge the U.S. Senate: #ConfirmChipman to Lead the ATF! The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is our nation's sole government agency responsible for enforcing our nation's gun laws and overseeing the gun industry. With an epidemic like gun violence, you'd think the ATF would be led by a strong leader and have ample resources to do its job. But for the last 6 six years, the ATF has not had a permanent director, and the agency is severely understaffed and underfunded. Recently, President Biden nominated 25-year retired ATF agent David Chipman to serve as the director of the ATF. Now we need your help to urge the Senate to #ConfirmChipman! With his extensive history in law enforcement, he is highly and uniquely qualified for this important role. Please, send your senators an email and tell them to #ConfirmChipman to lead the ATF! [SIGN OUR PETITION ]( ONE WEEK AWAY: “Firearms, Means Safety, and Suicide Prevention: A Clinical Workshop” In less than one week, our End Family Fire program and the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) will kick off workshops for mental health clinicians, trainees, or students on the integration of firearms and means of safety into clinical practice. [LISTEN NOW ]( You're Invited to a Brady Colorado Event: "Preventing Gun Violence Starts at Home" Preventing gun violence often starts at home. We know that by safely storing our firearms, we can greatly reduce the risk of injury or death by them — not only in our own homes but throughout our entire community. Following the tragedies in Boulder and Colorado Springs, we want Coloradans to know how to help prevent gun violence and save lives through safe firearm storage, advocacy, and more in Colorado.[RSVP for our virtual event on Tuesday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m. PT!]( [RSVP!]( [House Votes to Establish Commission to Investigate Capitol attack – as It Happened,]( The Guardian [Unregistered 'Ghost Guns' a Growing Problem in Ventura County, Law Enforcement Says,]( Ventura County Star [San Clemente Councilman Proposes Declaration as 2nd Amendment Sanctuary City,]( Orange County Register Thank you, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee kicked off a Congressional hearing on gun violence by centering the issue of [family fire]( a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun in the home that results in death or injury. Every day in America, 8 kids are unintentionally injured or killed due to family fire. We thank Rep. Jackson Lee for raising awareness about preventable family fire tragedies. Together, we can all promote and practice safe gun storage to save lives. [LEARN MORE ABOUT END FAMILY FIRE ]( Fred Guttenberg is a gun violence prevention survivor and advocate. This week, his devotion to the issue was on full display: On Thursday, he delivered a powerful testimony at a Congressional hearing focused on reducing mass shootings and gun violence.
