{NAME}, [We have been fighting for an assault weapons ban for years.]( These weapons are designed for maximum lethality in a minimum amount of time. Increasingly, assault weapons are the weapon of choice for mass shooters and in the wake of the horrifying shootings in El Paso and Dayton, we know that an assault weapons ban needs to be a top priority in Congress. But a lot of elected officials lack the courage to tackle this issue. [We need your help. We need to get as many signatures on this petition as possible to send a message to Congress: make an assault weapons ban a priority!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( We’ve demanded that Congress ends its recess and return to Washington, but so far Mitch McConnell has refused. Instead, he’s agreed to consider discussing expanded background checks when the Senate reconvenes. Don’t fall for it! That’s just a way to get the immediate pressure off him and our leaders. They’ll wait til the TV cameras are gone and we return to our daily lives. They’ll do a lot of talking, but nothing will happen. We need to send a powerful message with tens of thousands of signatures. They need to know that we will not back down until they sign laws that protect us. We owe it to the lives lost in El Paso and Dayton and we owe it to ourselves! [SIGN THE PETITION]( Together, we will win this fight.
