The threat came just days before the 20th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine on April 20, 1999. To the Columbine community: We're here for you, and we're fighting for you. This violence must end. These milestones come in the wake of tragic suicides in the survivor community — all of which are pushing our country toward an improved understanding that the trauma of gun violence doesn’t stop when the shooting stops. Our new resource — made in collaboration with the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), the Disaster Distress Helpline, and youth community activists — details how communities can provide mental and emotional support to people impacted by gun violence. [Read our new resource with the American Association of Suicidology.]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Brady’s Legal Team Brings in $2 Million Settlement for Victim’s Family We’re proud to help secure justice for the family of Joshua Higbee, who was one of 3 people murdered and 14 injured in a 2016 mass shooting in Kansas. The victims’ families obtained a $2 million legal settlement from the pawnshop that illegally sold the murder weapons. As part of the lawsuit, the dealer was forced out of the gun business and ceased all operations. Jon Lowy, Brady’s top lawyer, said the case sends a clear message to gun dealers across the country — wherever they are, they will be held accountable if they irresponsibly supply guns. [Read more about the case and settlement.]( [Victory]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Brady’s Legal Team Shines a Light on Rogue Sheriffs in Nevada It's outrageous that any officer could refuse to enforce life-saving gun laws simply because they don’t like them — but that’s what’s happening in Nevada. This week, Brady took action after Nevada sheriffs declared they won’t enforce a new background check law — a move that endangers public safety and goes against the duties of their jobs. This is our second legal action around rogue sheriffs. Last month, we made a similar demand in New Mexico. And we're not done — we’re considering action in Washington, Illinois, and Colorado. Bottom line: If officers are refusing to enforce gun safety laws, Americans deserve to know why. There’s just too much at risk.
