I wanted to make sure that you didn't miss Krisâ message from yesterday, because reinstating the assault weapons ban could not be more important. Your voice matters, and we are still short of our response goal, [so we've extended our survey deadline to give you one final chance to respond.]( Should Congress ban assault weapons? [YES]( [NO]( Today is the 30th anniversary of the passage of the original federal assault weapons ban. That shouldâve been the solution that kept us safe from these weapons of war â but the NRA made sure that the ban expired after only 10 years and, since 2004, our nation has been plunged back into a state of fear. The failure of our lawmakers to stand up to the gun lobby and reinstate the assault weapons ban is beyond disappointing: It is appalling and it is unacceptable. As a gun violence survivor, I donât want anyone to experience what itâs like to lose a loved one to a heinous act of violence. But the gun lobby would rather profit off their weapons of war than allow any form of action that could stop the next tragedy â and thanks to their deadly influence, weâre all at risk. The solutions to the gun violence epidemic are right in front of us. But if we want to defeat the gun lobby, we have to raise our voices as one. That's why it's so important that you join us in this action, friend. [Please, will you respond before our extended deadline at midnight to tell Congress it's time to end the violence?]( Should Congress ban assault weapons? [YES]( [NO]( Thank you â I appreciate it. Subject: The NRA put all our lives at risk Friend, tomorrow marks 30 years since the federal assault weapons ban was signed into law. It also marks 20 years since the NRA made sure that this critical ban ended, putting all of our lives at risk. The original assault weapons ban was a truly transformative piece of legislation that Brady helped make a reality. Countless lives were saved while the ban was in effect, and its end had deadly consequences: A staggering 183% increase in gun massacres in the decade after. We're calling on Congress to pass a new assault weapons ban to stop the cycle of death and violence. We need 10,000 activists to respond before midnight tonight to show Congress that Americans are ready for change. [Please, friend, will you respond to our live poll right now?]( Should Congress ban assault weapons? [YES]( [NO]( Assault weapons have been used in some of the most heinous and deadly mass shootings committed in our country because they are designed for destruction. Uvalde, Parkland, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Lewiston â and just last week, Winder, GA â are just some of the communities who have faced unimaginable tragedy. Assault weapons do not belong in schools, grocery stores, or concerts, but these places that should be safe are made deadly by easy access to weapons of war. The NRA and the gun lobby would rather make a profit off of marketing these deadly weapons to dangerous users than support any measure that would keep our children and families safe. Itâs time for our lawmakers to choose American lives over gun lobby blood money, friend. We'll only be able to overcome the gun lobby's influence in Washington if dedicated activists like you raise your voice for change. [So please, will you be one of the 10,000 activists we need to respond to our live survey before midnight to tell Congress to protect our communities?]( Should Congress ban assault weapons? [YES]( [NO]( Thank you, Kris Brown
