Add your name to our petition [Gun lobby-backed lawmakers are trying to undo our hard-fought progress, friend. We need your help sending a clear message to Congress: Do NOT weaken Brady Background Checks. Add your name to our petition NOW!]( Even after an assassination attempt on a former president, the gun lobby and its allies in Congress are attempting to weaken our gun laws and make it easier for prohibited purchasers to purchase firearms. Lawmakers are trying to overturn a life-saving federal rule that expands Brady Background Checks and helps keep firearms out of the hands of those intent on causing harm. If they’re successful, at least 20% of firearms could continue to be sold WITHOUT a background check — at gun shows and on thriving online gun marketplaces — and our communities will pay the price. [Will you please urge Congress to vote NO on this reckless resolution right now? We must send a clear message to our elected officials that now, more than ever, we should be strengthening our nation’s gun laws — NOT weakening them!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( Our namesakes, Jim and Sarah Brady, fought tooth and nail to pass the Brady Bill, establishing the Brady Background Check System for gun sales. To date, it’s stopped nearly 5 million prohibited firearm purchases, helping save countless lives. But in the years since the passage of the Brady Bill, gun sales have changed and deadly loopholes, namely gun shows and online gun marketplaces, have resulted in 1 in 5 firearms being sold WITHOUT a Brady Background Check. Supporters like you, friend, recently showed overwhelming support in favor of a federal rule to CLOSE these loopholes. But now, the gun lobby and its allies are trying to upend our progress — even while the country is in the midst of a gun violence crisis. [We can’t let this happen, friend. So, please, add your name to our petition and call on Congress to reject this dangerous resolution!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( In solidarity, Team Brady   [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( Brady 840 First Street, NE Suite 400 Washington, DC 20002 United States [unsubscribe](.
