Act Now Friend, We need your help advancing a common-sense safe firearm storage bill. This April, neighbors in a Brooklyn apartment were surprised to find an 11 year-old-boy shot in the arm in the stairwell of their building. The shooter? His 13-year-old sister. While home alone, the sister found an unsecured firearm in their home, went to show her brother, and while playing with it, the gun discharged shooting the boy. Stories like this are all too common, friend. Every day, eight kids are unintentionally injured or killed due to an unsecured firearm in the home. But we have the chance to change this devastating statistic. [A life-saving bill would require New York school districts to notify parents and guardians about our state’s safe firearm storage laws — an evidence-based approach that has the potential to save lives. But for this bill to be added to the New York Assembly Education Committee Agenda, Rep. Benedetto, the chairman of the committee, must hear from residents like YOU! Are you with us?]( [TAKE ACTION ]( The statistics surrounding unsecured firearms in the home are chilling. 76% of school shootings are facilitated by kids having access to unsecured or unsupervised guns in the home and 80% of teens who die by gun suicide use a firearm that belonged to someone in their home. But we can change this. New York has the chance to cement its position as one of the leading states in gun violence prevention by requiring schools to notify and educate parents and guardians about safe firearm storage laws. This bill will help protect our children and our communities by educating gun owners on how to properly store firearms at home — locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition. [So, please, use your voice and urge Rep. Benedetto to place this bill on the Assembly Education Committee Agenda!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( In solidarity, Brady New York   [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( Brady 840 First Street, NE Suite 400 Washington, DC 20002 United States Thank you for supporting Brady and our work to prevent gun violence and save lives.
