I need your help to speak out before it's too late. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Friend, I want to make sure you saw Kris's message on the Supreme Court's next consequential gun safety case – a decision from the court is imminent and we cannot afford another victory for the gun lobby. The Supreme Court’s decision on whether domestic abusers have the right to own guns has the power to save lives and stop families from experiencing the loss and grief that mine did. Almost twenty years ago, my mom was shot and killed answering the door of her home. It took nearly twelve years, and two more lives being senselessly cut short before my mom’s killer was found and prosecuted. During the trial, it was revealed that the man who killed my mom had a history of abuse and was subject to a domestic violence restraining order, yet he was still able to obtain firearms. The Supreme Court’s decision will not bring back my mom. Their decision will not heal me or my family, but their decision can stop other families from experiencing this grief. So I'm asking you, friend: Can I count on you to respond to Brady's urgent poll right now? Should domestic abusers have access to guns? [YES]( [NO]( Thank you for taking action today and every day. Liz Dunning Gun Violence Survivor and Chief Development and Engagement Officer, Brady ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kris Brown Date: Tues, Apr 30, 2024 Subject: COMING SOON: The Supreme Court's decision on if a domestic abuser can own a firearm... The outcome of U.S. v. Rahimi will determine if a domestic abuser is allowed to own a firearm. If the Supreme Court rules in the gun lobby's favor again, the consequences will be deadly. That’s why we’re counting on activists to speak out before the Court makes its decision in mere weeks. Can you respond to our urgent poll right now? Should domestic abusers have access to guns? [YES]( [NO]( DEADLINE 11:59 P.M. | COMPLETION RATE IN YOUR AREA: 96.4% Friend, Last summer, the Supreme Court handed down the NRA's dream ruling in a case that allowed for dramatic increases in who can carry concealed weapons in public. It emboldened the gun lobby to start legal battles to gut gun laws across the country – and now, the Court's next consequential decision on gun safety in the United States will come this summer. In U.S. v. Rahimi, the Supreme Court is considering whether a domestic abuser has the right to own a firearm. And, friend, another gun lobby victory in the highest court in the land would be deadly: There is a lethal connection between firearms and domestic abuse. The mere presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times as likely that a woman will be killed. I won't mince words: if the Supreme Court allows domestic abusers to access firearms, people will die. The Supreme Court must prioritize survivor safety over a dangerous abuser’s access to guns. This ultra-conservative Court, a majority solidified by former President Trump, has proven that they have no issue overturning decades-old precedent when it comes to the Second Amendment, so we cannot risk staying quiet. That's why Brady partnered with domestic violence prevention and gun violence prevention groups to file an amicus brief in the case last summer – and why I'm reaching out to ask for your help today. Lives are at risk. Gun laws are at risk. We need to do everything in our power to stop another deadly Supreme Court decision. Can you help make it clear that the majority of Americans support common-sense gun safety laws that save lives? We don't have a lot of time before the Court will make their decision and we need as many activists as possible to speak out NOW. Please, will you submit your answer now? Should domestic abusers have access to guns? [YES]( [NO]( Thank you for taking action at this critical moment, friend. Kris Brown Brady President Friends, thank you for supporting Brady.
