Hundreds of others suffered from serious gunshot wounds in what became the deadliest mass shooting by an individual in our country's history. Today, I'm taking time to remember all of those who lost their lives – daughters, sons, parents, neighbors, teachers, beloved coworkers, service members – and the families who will always love them. I'm also taking this opportunity to commemorate this somber anniversary by recommitting myself to the fight to end gun violence. And I'm counting on you to do the same. The AR-15s that killed the 60 victims of the Las Vegas shooting were used exactly as designed. These weapons are built for war and with one purpose: to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. They have no place on our streets or in our communities – period. But Congress has spent the last six years bowing down to the NRA, refusing to finally ban these weapons of war. And every year, we see more and more mass shootings like Las Vegas. Enough is enough. Today, we're calling on Congress to finally pass an assault weapons ban, and I need 7,392 activists to join us. [Please, will you sign our petition before midnight to tell us and to tell Congress where you stand?]( [TELL CONGRESS: Ban Assault Weapons NOW]( Thank you, Ashley Lantz Executive Director Brady PAC ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Brady PAC Date: Sat, Sep 30, 2023 Subject: 11 minutes and more than 1,000 bullets 11 minutes. That's how long the deadliest mass shooting in American history lasted. It took the gunman a mere 11 minutes to fire more than 1,000 bullets into a crowd of concertgoers in Las Vegas. He killed 60 people and left more than 400 others wounded. Tomorrow will mark six years since this horrific shooting, and as we remember those killed and injured, we're sounding the call for action. [Please, {NAME}, will you be one of 15,000 people to add your name to our Petition to Ban Assault Weapons before midnight? We're counting on your help to make sure that Congress hears us.]( [PETITION: Sign On Now]( Survivors recall thinking that the first gunshots were the sound of fireworks – and it's no wonder why. This was a concert – not a warzone. There's no reason why a music festival should turn into a massacre. The victims' biggest fear should have been an overly expensive taxi ride back to their hotel – not a gunman armed with twelve AR-15 style weapons. But we live in a country where weapons of war are allowed on our streets and in our communities. We live in a country where a man can purchase 33 guns in a year without raising a single alarm. We live in a country where people have to live in fear of facing a gunman armed with an assault weapon at a concert, at their school, at a grocery store, at a place of worship and even in their own homes. It's been nearly six years since the Las Vegas shooting, but Congress has still failed to take the bold action needed to end gun violence. And more and more people are dying every single day as a result of their spineless inaction. At Brady PAC, we're fighting every day to defeat the gun lobby and elect gun safety champions who will finally end this needless violence. Now, we need your help to make our voices loud and clear so that Congress can't ignore us anymore. [Please, will you add your name before midnight tomorrow to help us hit our 15,000-signature goal and demand that Congress finally pass an assault weapons ban]( [PETITION: Sign On Now]( Thanks, Team Brady PAC We can't wait any longer for action on gun safety. Brady PAC is fighting for lifesaving legislation like universal background checks and an assault weapons ban, but we need your support.
