It’s horrifying we have to say this: A teacher should not have the responsibility of killing their student if someone in their classroom ends up being a mass shooter. [CBS Texas]( "New bill could offer a stipend to teachers, staff for choosing to be armed on campus" [Do you support arming teachers?]( [YES]( [NO]( *Answer from {NAME} requested by 11:59 PM In the very same state where a mass shooter murdered 19 elementary school children despite the presence of a whole squad of armed police officers outside the door, extremists are trying to pass a bill that will financially incentivize teachers to be armed on campus, {NAME}. Every time a school shooting happens, the gun lobby is quick to swoop in and offer more guns to "make the situation safer." But reality shows that more guns has NEVER been the answer, and arming teachers is unfair to everyone. (And what about the law enforcement officers who were there and are trained for those types of situations?!) Here's the truth: Teaching is one of the oldest and most noble professions in the world. Yet despite being the first line of education for our nation's children, American teachers are severely underpaid. A study by the Brookings Institution found that, when compared to their counterparts across developed nations, teachers in the United States experience a significant gap in salary. Coupled with the uniquely American danger of having to prepare for and keep their students safe in a mass shooter situation, the landscape for the teachers of today is terrifying. And, it’s horrifying we have to say this: A teacher should not have the responsibility of killing their student if someone in their classroom ends up being a mass shooter. We need to take action to prevent shootings from happening in the first place. Bills like the one proposed in Texas are not only dangerous because they introduce (more) guns in a school environment, but they also take advantage of a population that is already financially underappreciated. Instead of getting a raise for good classroom management or outstanding student engagement, this bill will allocate up to $25,000 for the act of carrying a gun at school. How is that fair or just? It’s bizarre. [We're ready to take action nationwide that will keep teachers safe in the classroom and not put them directly in the line of fire. Do you agree with us?
