I am pissed. Hey {NAME}, Ashley here — I'm not going to mince words. I am pissed. An extremist, Trump-appointed judge in Texas issued a biased ruling on a bogus lawsuit that will potentially take the drug mifepristone — also known as the abortion pill — out of the U.S. consumer market. While the medication is STILL LEGAL and it's not yet clear how the ruling will proceed, it is evidence of a dangerous and extremist agenda to take control of people's bodies. The science, according to the Guttmacher Institute, tells us that this drug is safer than the surgical alternative, childbirth itself, and even more commonly accepted medications such as Viagra and penicillin. But once again, extremists are choosing to completely ignore science and facts to advance their dangerous agenda. Not only must we contend with living in a country where our politicians value guns over the lives of children and the safety of our communities — but with each passing day, we are also being forced to relinquish control of our own bodies. While our mission at Brady PAC is ending gun violence in our country, we cannot ignore the close ties between our movement and pro-choice activism. The fact is this: Freedom to live SAFELY is at the core of both. And we should ALL be concerned about an increasingly activist court that puts its extremist agenda above data and established case law, time and time again. This is a Supreme Court that seems to know no bounds. The reality is that the very same extremists who target abortion rights — who have overturned Roe v. Wade and passed cruel abortion bans nationwide — are the same ones who refuse to get weapons of war off our streets. Their ultimate goal is NOT to keep Americans safe but to impose their beliefs, no matter the lives it costs. While weeks like this can feel heavy and impossible, we cannot give up the fight. [It's time we stand up to extremist hacks who serve the special interest agendas that make our country less safe. We hope you will join us today and recommit yourself to the fight for reproductive healthcare.
