The only way we will solve the gun violence problem in America is through evidence-based gun safety

The only way we will solve the gun violence problem in America is through evidence-based gun safety legislation. [Insider]( "Nashville school staff members had guns, according to employee: report" Following the school shooting in Nashville last week, some legislators have renewed calls for arming school teachers and staff. But sources report that several staff members were armed during the attack — challenging the idea that "more guns save lives." [Piecemeal solutions to the gun violence epidemic aren't enough. We need legislators who will take action to protect our children. Help us unseat gun extremists by donating $13 before midnight to support our work >>]( [DONATE $13]( Following tragic events like the shooting in Nashville last week, gun lobby hacks are quick to fill the airwaves with empty thoughts and "solutions," most of which are simply: more guns. Last week, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) claimed, "You know, there's never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry." But this isn't true, and the shooting at Covenant School underscores the absurdity of arming staff and teachers. Teachers are trained to handle countless situations, from designing lesson plans and de-escalating fights to recognizing abuse and barricading their classrooms. But we should not and cannot expect them to stop a shooter. The simple truth is this: School personnel with guns have been present at many, many mass shootings, and people still have died. Our kids deserve to feel safe, have fun, and learn at school. Adding weapons to the classroom is not a solution to mass shootings. Common-sense policies like background checks, extreme risk protection order laws, and banning assault weapons are how we will end gun violence and protect our children. Brady PAC is working to elect gun violence prevention legislators who will pass effective gun laws — but we need your help.
