On this day, forty-two years ago, Press Secretary Jim Brady was shot in the head in an attempted murder of President Ronald Reagan. {NAME}, On this day, 42 years ago, White House Press Secretary Jim Brady was shot in the head in an attempted murder of President Ronald Reagan. On the night of the attack, the surgeons stated he only had about a 50/50 chance of survival. But after three procedures and 239 days at GWU Hospital, Jim recovered from the horrific attack. Having survived, unlike so many other victims of gun violence, Jim and his wife, Sarah Brady, decided to dedicate the rest of their lives to the fight for a safer America. Thanks to their work, Congress passed the Brady Bill, which expanded background checks on gun purchases. This was one of the most consequential pieces of gun safety legislation in our nation's history, but Jim and Sarah's legacy doesn't end there. Today, we are still building on their work, taking inspiration from their story and continuing their fight to end gun violence in America. We've come a long way since that day in 1981, but there's still much we need to do if we want to fully honor Jim and Sarah Brady's work. From passing universal background checks to a ghost gun ban and an assault weapons ban, there's so much we have left to accomplish to move our country forward. [Today, in honor of Jim and Sarah's work to end gun violence in America, we hope you will make a donation to help strengthen our movement.
