In response to her death, Hadiya’s friends decided to commemorate her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. The first "Wear Orange Day" took place on June 2, 2015 – what would have been Hadiya’s 18th birthday. Since then, it is observed nationally on the first Friday in June and the following weekend each year. {NAME}, wearing orange or chipping in $5 may feel like a small gesture, but when thousands of us come together to organize and advocate for change, we have a chance to make a real difference. For me, the color orange has additional meaning as it was also Jaime’s favorite color. When I see folks around the country, from the president to athletes to students, wearing orange in honor of my daughter, my family, her friends and the thousands of other families like ours who have been impacted by gun violence, it gives me hope. If we all raise our voices as one, we can defeat the gun lobby. The majority of Americans are on our side, so I'm personally asking you to raise your voice and join our fight, {NAME}.
