But I also call my mom when the country has a problem. When I was a kid, I thought my mom was absolutely amazing. She could teach, cook, write, pick me up from school, answer any question, resolve any quandary. When I was four, she told me she had a black belt in karate to get me to stop worrying about the monsters in my closet. I believed her until I was twelve. That was the kind of person my mom was: she could do anything. [Mira and Christina]( As I got older, I stopped worrying about the monsters in my closet and started worrying about bigger, more amorphous issues, things even a black belt in karate couldn’t fix. But my mom kept gearing up to fight those too. I’ve come to realize that my mom wasn't just larger-than-life for me as a kid. She continues to be a champion for me and everyone around her. At the University of Iowa, she stood up for the rights of educators and students. In the state house, she held out for labor rights, voting rights, small businesses, and environmental protection. And now, as a candidate for the US House, she’s running to represent the real-life issues facing each and every one of her constituents—including me. That’s why, when I see a problem facing Iowans, Americans, or the world today, my first instinct is still to pick up the phone and call my mom—because I know she’ll listen. You don’t have to live in her house or see her every day to know that she will listen to and fight for every single Iowan. You just have to talk to her once. She’ll show you that she’s in your corner, and she won’t stop until the job gets done. Because that’s the kind of person my mom is: she can do anything. I know my mom will deliver for us in Congress, {NAME}, but she’ll need your support to make sure she has the resources she needs to reach voters in every corner of Iowa to win in November. [So I’m asking for my mom—Will you support her campaign and send a champion, my champion, to Washington and give all of us here in Iowa a voice in Congress?]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
