What Labor Day means to me...

Growing up, my family lived in a trailer in a small rural town. My mom worked at a daycare, and my dad worked long days in the sun as a construction worker. Despite their hard work, we struggled to make ends meet, and when my dad got sick, my family had to choose between paying for his medication and paying for everything else. My dad and me at a construction site This story is like many Iowans’ – people who are working hard and still living paycheck to paycheck, having to make tough decisions when it comes to money. I believe that if you work hard, you deserve a fair shot to get ahead. That’s why I’m running for Congress – to stand up and fight for Iowa’s working families, like my own, who have had to worry about being one bad break away from not making ends meet. There is dignity in work. From ensuring Iowans have access to good-paying jobs, workplace safety, and retirement security, there is much more we can do to support the men and women of labor.
