There’s so much to love about our Commonwealth, we could go on and on… Before we do though, the Finance team made us promise to ask: [Can you chip in $5 to continue fighting for Pennsylvanians in the U.S. Senate?]( For Pennsylvania Day, we wanted to spell out some fun facts about the Commonwealth you might not have known before. Pennsylvania leads the country in the number of pretzel bakeries. 45 pretzel manufacturers call PA home, producing 80% of the pretzels in the US and helping it earn the title of the Pretzel Belt. [Pretzels]( Pennsylvania is one of four states to be considered a Commonwealth. A Commonwealth is a state that formally declares its independence from Great Britain in its constitution. On the State Capitol building is a brass “Commonwealth” statue. [Pennsylvania State Capitol]( While there may be a great divide between Philadelphia Eagles fans and Pittsburgh Steelers fans now — in one season in 1943 the two teams merged to form the Steagles. This was the result of World War II, as many players were drafted into service. [Steagles Logo]( Pennsylvania is full of rich history, and this is just scratching the surface. We love Pennsylvania and want it to be the best it can be. Like Bob Casey always says, we’re striving to make this a Commonwealth in life as well as in name.
