Google promised to delete sensitive user data that could be weaponized to prosecute those seeking reproductive health care across state lines. {NAME}, they haven’t kept their promise. [Join us in holding Google accountable: Add your name to demand Google stop collecting and retaining user location data for abortion clinics.]( [ADD YOUR NAME NOW!]( {NAME}, In the time since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, dozens of states have banned or severely restricted abortion care despite the fact that 511,000 abortions were estimated to have occurred in the first 6 months of 2023. [1] Accountable Tech’s research shows that Google still retains location search queries for reproductive care facilities – despite promising to do otherwise over a year ago. [2] This is a HUGE problem: Right-wing state governments are increasingly seeking to prosecute people seeking abortions – and in states like Oklahoma and Texas, even private citizens can sue anyone who aids and abets abortion seekers. [3] [{NAME}, will you join us in calling on Google to protect users’ privacy and delete users’ location data that state governments and private citizens could use to prosecute or sue those seeking reproductive health care →]( [ADD YOUR NAME!]( Thanks to previous pressure that we put on Google this past year the tech giant updated their policy to automatically delete the location data of visits to "particularly personal" locations like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centers, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and others. [4] However, our own research from November 2022 and April 2023 found that this data is STILL being stored despite Google’s promises, and it could be weaponized by anti-abortion prosecutors and state agents. Recent research from the Washington Post also concluded that location history data related to visiting abortion clinics was stored by Google, despite their promises to automatically delete that sensitive data. [View it in your web browser]( About BlueAmp Action: We cannot sugarcoat the current situation. Right-wing authoritarianism, defeated by a worldwide coalition during WWII, was only in hibernation. Over the past decade it has infected democratic societies--including ours. It is as simple as it is terrifying: What we do now will define the future of our country and world. We at Blue Amp Action are dedicated to liberal, open societies, where reason and science are applied to solve our problems; where civil rights--including voting rights!--are protected for all. We fight for these values every day. Speaking up on our platforms, raising the voices and the political prospects of liberal pols and pundits. And savvy grassroots activists like you know, just like we do, that we can’t stop watching the people we help elect: after the elections, we have to keep organizing support for the policies we like and pushing back against the ones we don’t. When the public tunes out between elections and the only people our elected officials hear from are the paid lobbyists of wealthy corporations, our government stops being accountable to the needs of ordinary families. Democracy never sleeps, and neither can we. So we ask that you support our work, so we can continue to engage in this fight every moment of every day. So our kids grow up in democracy, not dystopia. Thank you for your support for all we do!
