However, the future of Medicaid access is at risk, and we need your urgent action to ensure its protection. At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act was enacted to ensure that people remain continuously enrolled in state Medicaid programs until the end of the public health emergency. This provision was tied to enhanced federal funding. However, in 2022, Congress decided to end this critical continuous enrollment provision on March 31, 2023. The consequences are dire. Between 7.8 million and 24.4 million individuals, including millions of children, could lose their vital Medicaid coverage as states move to remove residents from the program.
