We celebrate Juneteenth because in the state of Texas on June 19th 1865, Union General Gordon Granger announced that Slaves were free. It is only fitting then, that [Black Texan Colin Allred is taking on Senator Ted Cruz--the former a protector of democracy and the rights of our citizens](, the latter lined up ideologically and temperamentally with those Texas Confederates. As Allred said during his campaign launch, Cruz incited & sided with those, who like Confederate traitors, laid seige to America, this time at the Capitol on Jan 6th. Cruz is the ideological heir to Texas slaveholders who had to be told on Juneteenth to release humans from bondage. Cruz has criminalized women's bodies, attempted a coup to overthrow our republic and has supported laws and spouted talking points to smear and discriminate vs Blacks, Jews, the LGBTQ community and more. Allred, on Juneteenth, would've been celebrating the Emancipation Proclamation finally reaching Texas. He was raised by a single mother and rose to be an NFL star, Obama Administration appointee, civil rights lawyer and Congressman, after knocking out an incumbent in a Republican leaning seat in 2018. He is all that makes so-called men like Ted Cruz cower behind discrimination in order to compete. [Allred’s Juneteenth announcement]( Let's honor Juneteenth and Allred's courage to keep fighting these fights, not just for him, but the promise of America. Allred winning increases Black representation, adds a strong voice from a different background to Senate debates, eliminates one of the most dishonest members from the Senate and holds Democrats' majority, so we can pass more landmark legislation from 2024-2028.
