It’s Mother’s Day in America, and that means [billions of dollars]( are being spent in an attempt to honor the maternal figures in our lives … whether they want us to spend that money [or not](. My child’s class created “bouquets” of coupons for their moms. Not to brag or anything, but my coupons are good for “sleeping in,” “one hour of alone time” and “being told to do something and no complaining.” My kid is on to something: As Sarah Green Carmichael wrote, “Among dual-career couples, women do more housework — even when they [earn more money]( than their partners.” Forget the flowers; what we really want is a [helping hand](. “In almost every coupled household, women do more and have less time to recover. Women consistently report higher rates not only of burnout, but also of [stress](, [depression](, [anxiety]( and [insomnia](.” That’s not a recipe for strong families, and that takes its toll on the economy. Right now, I’m cashing in the time even a 7-year-old recognizes that mothers need. So here’s what else Bloomberg Opinion’s writers have had to say about working women, parenting, doing it all and that oh-so-persistent equality gap. [Women Are Going Gray.
