His move against former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould — who said she was pressured to end a prosecution of construction firm SNC-Lavalin — and Jane Philpott is a risk for a government that prided itself on having a cabinet made up equally of men and women. Lightfoot will also be the first openly gay leader of the nation’s third-most-populous city, which is struggling with gun violence and fiscal woes.
