Hi This is the FIRST newsletter of our free SEO training course. Keyword research is the MOST important part of SEO. Most new bloggers don’t get any traffic from Google because they publish blog posts without keyword research. Don’t make that mistake. Here are some tips for finding better keywords to drive more traffic from Google in 2024. Come up with some relevant topics The first step is to brainstorm topic ideas that are relevant to your website. You can analyze your competitors' sites, identify your target audience, or simply go for topics where you can naturally promote your products or services. Make sure to come up with 3 to 5 BROAD categories in your industry so that topics might inspire keywords. Let’s say you sell digital marketing products, here are a few categories that might be relevant to your website; - Email marketing tools - Marketing Analytics - Mobile marketing tools - SEO tools Once you have a list of relevant categories, you can start the keyword research process. Brainstorm keywords for each topic (or category) Once you create your initial list of topics, you can start brainstorming keywords. Let’s look at the examples of the previous step, starting with “digital marketing tools.” Ask yourself: What marketing-related queries might people have? The key here is to come up with as many potential queries as possible for each topic. You can also use these platforms to come up with question keywords; - Quora - Answer The Public - AlsoAsked.com Here’s an example (from Answer The Public); Here are some problem-focused questions related to the above example; - I'm new to digital marketing, which tools should I start with? - I'm struggling to get traffic to my website, what tools can help? - I want to improve my conversion rate, what tools can I use? - I'm on a tight budget, what are some free or affordable digital marketing tools? These are just a few examples, and the possibilities are endless! The more specific you are about your target audience and their needs, the better you'll be able to brainstorm relevant marketing-related queries. Refine your keyword list In the above step, you’ll find the keyword ideas or queries. Now, it’s time to start getting into the actual research part of the process. Here are a few simple ways to refine your keywords; - Find keywords that your competitors are already ranking well in Google - Find related keywords (use Google related searches feature at the end of SERP results) - Use free tools like Ubersuggest (if you want to uncover hidden keywords, you need tools like Semrush) Here’s an example from Google related search; Here’s an example from Ubersuggest; Make sure to keep an eye on the following metrics to find better keywords; - CPC (Cost Per Click) - KD% (Keyword Difficulty) - Search volume Target keywords with less than 200 to 300 monthly searches if you’re running a new website. Otherwise, you need to build lots of links to be able to rank on the first page of Google. So there you go. Looking for more? You can read our [free guide on keyword research](.
