My schedule used to be so darn full. Working 60-80 hours a weeks, as the default. And even then, putting in all those hours, I still felt behind with my never-ending issues at work. I rarely felt satisfied or accomplished at the end of my work day. There was always MORE to be done. I was always chasing my to-do list. All this, despite being a young business owner — someone who “supposedly” has total freedom. That was all back in 2011 and 2012. When my first son was born, I realized that I needed to do better. I didn’t want my work life to dominate my time and energy. But… At the same time, I still had a strong desire to do meaningful work. These seemingly-opposing forces shouldn’t have to fight one another. I knew it was okay to have a thriving work life while also having an awesome personal life. I knew it had to be possible. But how? Well… Through a significant amount of trial and error, I came up with a system to help keep myself on track and get my most important work done, despite’s life’s constant curveballs. My only regret is not figuring it sooner. One of the cornerstones of the system that I use today is [planning my day and week](. This is a critical action for me and my business. By taking a little time to plan the important things of my week, I am set up to do it well. …and reap the rewards of focus… Now… This is a possibly-damning confession, but… I’m not a naturally organized person. However, today, my “work-life balance” looks much more healthy. Long gone are the 80-hour work weeks. And, for the most part, my ideal week looks something like this: - No meetings on Mondays or Fridays. - Mornings are slow and reserved for deep work. - Afternoons are for client calls and leading my group coaching programs. - Evenings and weekends are free for personal and family time (currently we are either playing board games or trying to get to the climbing gym as often as possible). I didn’t get to this point by having some big breakthrough in my business or by hiring a rock-star team that took everything off my plate. I got here by learning how to be focused. Your dream week comes much more easily when you have margin and focus in your life. Which is why, on Wednesday, I’ll be teaching a new workshop: [The Perfect Week Plan](. 👉 If you want me to send you the private link so you can get access to this new workshop, just [RSVP here](.
