Hello friends! Welcome to this week's edition of 2x2. The Friday newsletter of diversions and ideas

Hello friends! Welcome to this week's edition of 2x2. The Friday newsletter of diversions and ideas for leaders and creators. As I write today’s newsletter, the weather in Kansas City is beautiful! And my 3 boys are all at a camp for the week … so the house is unusually quiet for a summer day. Ahhh. 😊 The quiet scene this morning is the opposite of how the week has felt so far… Because it’s launch week. On Tuesday we announced the all-new [Focus Accelerator membership](. This is something we’ve been working on for 18 months… It’s finally out there and [the response has been beyond what we expected](. That said, let’s dive in. I feel like I’ve got some especially great stuff for you today. As always, below you will find a couple of diversions and recommendations for you to check out; and then, secondly, are a couple of ideas. Enjoy! Check this out 1: [Leadership and the competency fallacy]( This is some fantastic leadership advice from Claire Lew: “One of our greatest desires we have as leaders is to appear competent to our team. That's not a bad thing! Being competent is good. But the keyword here is "appear" – we want to "appear" competent as a leader.” (Side Note: I had the privilege of interviewing Claire for our Creative Focus Summit a few years back, and she gave some fantastic advice to leaders, not the least of which was (a) how to handle advice; and (b) what to do with new ideas you have. Her interview is available in the [Accelerator Vault]( 2: [The Greatest Life Hacks in the World (for Now)]( “Something does not need to be perfect to be wonderful” (Side note, this is on the NYT so you may hit the paywall. But if so, fret not because it’s basically just a remix of Kevin Kelly’s list of advice. On which, you will also find this nugget: “When you lead, your real job is to create more leaders, not more followers.” .. and gosh. If you’re having trouble creating leaders, then read Claire’s thread above.) Something to think about 1: Are you leading with your ego? The aforelinked leadership thread by Claire, overlaps a ton with a mindset I have been focusing on in my own leadership over the past several years. In short, there are other, [more sustainable ways to lead by example](. The problem is that our ego usually gets in the way. Or, the ego of our leadership mentors who modeled a “do more, be more, know more” approach. 2: [Three reasons you’re not seeing results (yet)]( - It’s too early - You’re doing the wrong action - You’re not actually doing what you say or think you are (you’re distracted in the moment of action, or you’re not actually showing up consistently) If 1: then it’s a matter of patience. Don’t quit. If 2: then it’s a matter of strategy. Try something new and measure your results. If 3: then it’s a matter of focus. Track your actions and don’t give into distractions. * * * — Shawn P.S. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
