As folks have been signing up for [Focus Course Academy](, we are asking them why they are joining. (It's one part of our onboarding process for each Cohort member.) - As I've been hearing back and reviewing the comments so far, one of the themes I have noticed is around this: work-life balance. - When asked which of the academy sessions they are most looking forward to, this is one of the most popular answers (so far): Building habits and systems that move you forward toward your goals. - And when asked about which areas of life feel the most in need of focus, the theme was around wanting to get better at prioritizing personal time. * * *
The segment of Academy that always has the most "lightbulb" moments is during Habits Week. This is week 3 of Academy, and, as I mentioned in yesterday's email, it is arguably the apex of the whole thing. Habits Week is when we will help you to develop your ideal schedule and identify habits that will move you forward in each area of your life. The results from these sections are often what make the biggest, long-term impact on people. Because you will also learn how to better prioritize and manage your responsibilities, how to follow-through with what is important to you, and how to stay motivated. Is your productivity system busted?
If you're feeling the frustration around work-life and personal-life, it may be that you're working (at least in part) with a busted system. These are the 4 primary symptoms of a busted productivity flow: - Busywork: Doing tasks and activities that are not rewarding, they donât add up nor do they compound into anything substantial over time, and they donât really move things forward. Simply put, theyâre not the best use of your time. - Reactive work: When you find yourself reacting to the needs of others and unable to follow through with your own priorities. There is always something else coming your way that you have to react to, and youâre not able to proactively focus on the things that you know you should be doing. - Procrastination: When you and/or your team have a hard time following through on your commitments. Tasks get put off to the last minute, or skipped altogether. - Burnout: When you feel like your just on the hamster-wheel of hustle. You are feeling burnt out, unmotivated, and canât see how your current activities lead toward your desired outcomes. Youâll find these symptoms in teams, companies, and even in your own individual day-to-day life. Over the years, we have worked with thousands of folks to improve their productivity, their time management, and their focus. In that time weâve identified the most common challenges and how to easily overcome them. Donât stay stuck in that loop of bad productivity.
A flywheel, by nature repeats itself. And so, if you are stuck in a busted system, then things will simply continue to stay busted. During Academy, our singular, overarching aim, is to get you out of that busted system and into a more focused life. Weâll dive deeper into that 4-part framework (including the positive, I.P.A.C. methodology) and, as a result, youâll discover how to overcome busywork, get out of reactive mode, stop procrastinating, and get back from burnout. - Improve your focus.
