Welp… It’s not that I keep track… But… if I DID keep track… Then this is where I would say most CEOs get stuck… Overthinking. In your business, it can be easy to develop a bias toward overthinking. And overthinking will slow things down, create distractions, and stress you out. In fact, I would guess that at least half of the CEOs I work with are fantastic at overthinking things. Just last week [I hosted a business strategy retreat]( here in Kansas City, and we spent a good amount of time just helping one another simplify. Here’s how to tell if you’ve slipped into being the CEO of Overthinking: - Flat out: you’re behind. There are a lot of huge opportunities and ideas and you have and they’re starting to pile up and get backlogged. - Things are getting put off / ignored. - You’ve got way more ideas than time and yet you still don’t know what to focus on. - You’ve lost your bias toward action. You now move slower (and not in a good way or an “I’m getting old” way) - You’re often the one in your own way. In a nut, you (mostly) know what you need to do… but you still haven’t done it. You’ve got 100 opportunities and priorities, and you’re overthinking everything all the time. (It’s exhausting, right?) Habit 3: Focused CEOs Show Up Every Day What if things were different? What if you DIDN’T overthink things? When you master the habit of showing up every day, and develop your strong bias toward action, then this is what it looks like: - Flat out: You’re reliable. - Surprise! You have more margin. - You (and your team) are working on a calm and confident execution of the plan you built months ago. - You know exactly what your Critical Action is… AND your Critical Action gets prioritized and done - You’ve got systems and structure in place for reliable execution that keeps you on track and free from distractions. - You have time blocks for your most important activities, and, as a result, your to-do list is on your calendar. - Things get done faster, easier, and reliably. When it comes to developing your bias toward action, the best thing you can do is get started small and simple. One of the ways I help avoid overthinking is by designing my ideal week. I’m clear on what is most important AND I’m clear on when I’m going to work on it. Moreover, by having [margin and focus built in to my company culture](, it forces me to stay on track doing only the most important tasks and projects that move things forward. And I regularly review projects and celebrate progress with my team. This helps us stay focused on what’s working and make changes to things that aren’t working. — Shawn P.S. I can help you design your simplified, focused, ideal week and bring a calm clarity to your life and your business. I like to say ABC 👉 Action Brings Clarity… And it works like this: - We work together to Build your Business Mission Map (this is where you get crystal clear on your business goals for the sake of decision making and delegation) - I help you identify and simplify your Critical Action. - We figure out your “lead domino” growth strategy. (Not some complicated / complex approach. But instead it’s a simple and single critical action that moves the needle forward in your business more than anything else.) - We put together your new, ideal schedule that has protected time for your business growth AND for your personal interests, etc. - I do this inside of a mastermind group for the sake of accountability, friendships, and diversity. - We’ll train your team for free. (You Get 5 spots to the next Focus Course Live for your team.) - And you get invited to our new Delegation Masterclass that’s happening at the end of next month. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
