For much of 2022 I felt waist deep in anxiety. Every morning it seemed I was waking up into a baseline of fear, stress, and worry. And, to be candid, it was pretty much all centered around my business. Over the past couple years, I’ve done a lot to change that (see more in the P.S.), and these days I have far less stress or anxiety around life and business. There was a big shift that happened one day as I was journaling and writing out my thoughts. I’d like to share that with you here. Below is from my personal journal, that I wrote in September 2022: * * * Why do I wake up anxious? Worry and anxiety come from my need to control the future and to control an outcome. They come from my fear that my current actions of the day are wrong. They come from a lack of trust in the process and a lack of patience to see a goal to its end. I think it’s because I feel afraid that what I am doing in life or business is not working and I need to change it right away. I’m waking up, and feel afraid that whatever actions and systems and processes we are doing.... they aren’t enough. They aren’t working. And that we need to do something else and do it quickly! So it means that not only do I have to figure out and decide WHAT is it that we should be doing instead.... then I also have to start doing that thing! And I’ll feel an anxiousness to do all of that right away, today! Now! Or else it will be too late… Instead of worry, I want to choose to trust the process… Instead of fear, I want to choose to be patient… Instead of anxiousness, I choose diligence and commitment. I want to stay focused on… - Consistency - Communicating with my team - Testing what I am doing - Showing up every day - Leaning into our values and our goals - Believing that God will give help and guidance - Reminding myself I’m not alone in this * * * I came back to that journal entry many times after writing it. I needed it to remind me that I was choosing to lean in to the positive actions that were within my control. Running your own business can be amazing and rewarding in so many ways. But, obviously it can be difficult and stressful and challenging at times… One thing that has been most helpful for me has been to get around other business owners — other folks who “get it”. — Shawn P.S. In the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with more than 50 agency owners and consultants who felt overwhelmed and stuck… and watch as they turn the corner in their business. Anyway… Now that I’m back from my summer sabbatical, this week I wanted to host a small, workshop with Q&A for entrepreneurs and agency owners. This small workshop on Wednesday is in advance of my Focus Like a Boss program which will be happening this fall. I’ve got some new frameworks that I’ve pulled and thought it’d be fun to get a few other business owners together to share. I’ll be sharing about the “4 Types of CEOs” … and how it is that each type sabotages their business and schedule in a different way … and what to do about it. Let me know if you’d like a calendar invite to the workshop and I’ll send you the details. To unsubscribe, click [here](. Blanc Media, 714 Main St., Grandview, MO 64030, United States
