#BelieveintheBx Friends -- Starting a small business is a leap of faith and a belief in something bigger. Today, on Small Business Saturday, we want to celebrate these entrepreneurs and businesses that bring The Bronx and all neighborhoods stability, wages, and community. Entrepreneurs rely on hard work and a bit of luck to bring their dream into reality, and these dreams turn into jobs, wages, stability and community landmarks. I try to support small businesses every chance I get. Here in The Bronx, I am a big fan of [The Lit.Bar,]( the only independent bookshop in The Bronx. Located in Mott Haven, I recommend checking out Noëlle Santos’s great store. You can walk from Yankee Stadium to [Porto Salvo]( a fantastic Italian restaurant. Restaurants have taken a hit this year, so I encourage you to support your favorite local places. You might even spot Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor grabbing a meal here. Amaurys Grullon is the source for your Bronx Pride wardrobe, at their shop [Bronx Native.]( Check them out for Bronx-focused clothing, art, and media. I encourage you to check out any of the businesses in the [Third Avenue Business Improvement District (BID)]( the oldest commercial corridor in The Bronx, led by Michael Brady. This project addresses the barriers that small business owners can face, and they build robust equitable economic development tools for responsible growth. On this Small Business Saturday, I urge you to consider shopping, dining, and safely visiting the small businesses in your community. Support the employees and owners who make our community more vibrant. The Bronx is home to so many great fantastic businesses, and we want to make sure they can continue to exist, and even thrive during these challenging times.
