Back On The Road For Our Louisiana Environmental Justice âCancer Alleyâ Tour [Black Voters Matter logo]( Hi Friend, Back On The Road For Our Louisiana Environmental Justice âCancer Alleyâ Tour Next week, we'll be kicking off our Louisiana Environmental Justice âCancer Alleyâ Tour, a powerful exploration of the fight against environmental racism. Throughout this tour, we will be talking with community members about the impact that [over 200 petrochemical plants]( have had in Black communities over the years, which have contributed to high cancer rates and poor health quality. Join us at one of our tour dates below to help us advocate for a more equitable and sustainable future. [JOIN US ON THE GROUND]( Join Us Tomorrow for a Virtual Teach-In on âCivil Rights â A Battle Won or Lost?â Tomorrow at 6 PM ET weâll be gathering virtually for our next Policy Corner where we will explore how decisions from the highest court have impacted Black communities when it comes to issues like reproductive rights, affirmative action, and more. Together, we'll break down recent legislative and SCOTUS updates, showing how these directly affect Black people across the country. Make sure you are following us across our social media channels so you can join us online tomorrow! [YOUTUBE]( [FACEBOOK]( [TWITTER]( Reflecting on the 60th Anniversary of the Historic March on Washington In 1963, 250,000 people united at D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial, demanding justice, jobs, and freedom. MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech made history as it highlighted the ongoing challenges Black people continue to endure post-emancipation. As we commemorate this 60th anniversary milestone, the struggle for justice persists. Setbacks like voting rights erosion, inequitable Supreme Court decisions, and rising hatred all emphasize the importance of continuing this fight. Parallels between then and now underscore the urgency of this movement, particularly considering that we have more rights to lose in 2023 than we did in 1963. On this anniversary, we honor 1963's legacy by renewing our commitment to justice and equality. Check out our 2022 Impact Report! Last week we released our 2022 Impact Report! This report highlights the significant progress and achievements made by BVM over the past year to empower marginalized, predominantly Black communities across the country. From our âWe Wonât Black Downâ 12-state bus tour to expanding our Warrant Clinic program across 15 states to distributing nearly $2.5 million to 170 partners in 54 counties for GOTV efforts during the Georgia Senate Runoff election and so much more. We are so proud of all the work we accomplished together in 2022 and appreciate your continued participation and support of these efforts. [EXPLORE THE FULL IMPACT REPORT]( Volunteer With BVM!
