Learn more about our new campaign [Black Voters Matter logo]( Hi Friend, Announcing Our New Campaign— The Sick and Tired Campaign We are so excited to announce the launch of our Sick and Tired Campaign, inspired by Fannie Lou Hamer's iconic words, "We are sick and tired of being sick and tired." This campaign will focus on how we can tackle racism as a public health crisis through advocating for increased access to affordable healthcare.  One of the key ways in which we can advocate for healthcare for those in need is through the fight for Medicaid expansion in Black communities. By expanding Medicaid eligibility, we can drastically increase the number of individuals with health insurance which will provide greater access to primary health care and preventive medical services. We believe that investing in Medicaid in Black communities will also have profound economic benefits, including creating jobs.  However, 12 states have yet to expand Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act, leaving economically disadvantaged Black communities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wyoming without access to vital healthcare services.  [Our Sick and Tired Campaign]( aims to raise awareness about this issue and advocate for change, so that all individuals, regardless of their economic status or race, can have access to the healthcare they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.  As we commit to fighting to make sure that quality, equitable, and readily available healthcare is a right not a privilege for Black communities, can you commit to supporting us? We advocated for utility bill relief, cleaner air quality, access to clean water, and much more! We also hosted a program and panel discussion where climate and environmental justice advocates from across the state came together to discuss the relevance of water issues and the impact of climate and environmental legislation affecting Georgians. Perhaps you or a loved one are struggling to access healthcare because you fall into the coverage gap, or maybe you work in healthcare and have seen firsthand the benefits that expanding Medicaid could have. Whatever your story is, we want to hear it. Your voice matters, and by sharing your experiences, you can help raise awareness about the importance of Medicaid expansion. [SHARE YOUR STORY]( MedEx Forum for Mississippi Black Voters Matter is excited to announce the MedEx Forum for Mississippi, where we will be advocating for Medicaid expansion. The forum will bring together legislators, vendors, panelists, and medical professionals to discuss the critical need for Medicaid expansion in Mississippi. With over 100,000 individuals at risk of losing access to healthcare, the need for Medicaid expansion has never been more urgent. The MedEx Forum for Mississippi will serve as an opportunity for attendees to learn about the benefits of Medicaid expansion and to engage with experts in the field. Through interactive panel discussions and workshops, attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences and to advocate for change. Medicaid Expansion Events in Texas and Georgia Black Voters Matter is hosting a series of events on March 25th to support Medicaid Expansion and increase access to healthcare resources. In Texas, we will be hosting a "Know Your Rights" event to educate community members about Medicaid expansion and how to navigate the healthcare system.  In Georgia, there will be several events, including a Healthcare Resource Fair in Bainbridge, a Health Event in Byromville (Dooly County), and a Resource Fair in Waycross. These events aim to provide resources and information to those who need it most, particularly in underserved communities. By increasing awareness and access to healthcare resources, we hope to empower individuals to take control of their health and advocate for equitable access to care. Beyond her impressive body of work, Roxane is a mentor and advocate for emerging writers, and has inspired countless individuals to use their voices to effect change. Through her writing, teaching, and public speaking engagements, Roxane has helped shape a more inclusive and just society for all. We are grateful for her contributions to the media and storytelling, and her unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities.
