Speaking Out on Water Crisis in Jackson Friend, Speaking Out on Water Crisis in Jackson Last week, P

Speaking Out on Water Crisis in Jackson [Black Voters Matter logo]( Friend, Speaking Out on Water Crisis in Jackson Last week, President Biden declared a water crisis emergency in Jackson, MS, bringing national attention to this decades-long problem. But this is not an isolated issue. As we have often shared in our own reporting, what happens in the South is usually a precursor for what may befall the rest of the country. In fact, extensive infrastructure issues have plagued Black communities around the country for generations, preventing Black people from access to the most basic of human rights, such as clean water. Recent stories about Baltimore and NYC have been written in recent days to this point.  Here at BVM, we are committed to supporting our communities in Jackson – and beyond – to make sure we are doing our part to get them the resources they so desperately need. This is why we are doing everything we can on the ground to make sure that clean water is accessible right now because… I matter. You matter. We matter. [READ OUR STATEMENT]( [ACCESS CLEAN WATER NOW](   In Action at Made in America — Cause Village Last weekend, we attended Made in America with several other advocacy groups for the [“Cause Village,”]( a dedicated hub for social action at the Philadelphia-based music festival, celebrating the power of local and national organizations. We had the opportunity to talk to festival-goers about Black Voters Matter and all the work we are doing leading up to the midterms. We had over 600 people stop by our booth to sign up to receive updates and learn how they can take action with BVM. We were also able to share local election information to ensure PA residents feel prepared to vote this fall!  Take a look at some highlights from the weekend below!   Heading to Florida to Fight for Fair Maps Right now, voting rights are under attack in Florida. Gov. DeSantis’ recent attempt at pushing forward unconstitutional redistricting maps could be extremely detrimental to our communities if successful.  This is why we are getting back on the road with our partners as part of the “We Draw the Lines” tour. BVM has joined a coalition, led by Equal Ground, and includes Florida Rising and League of Women Voters Florida – all of whom are committed to fighting to ensure that Florida voters have fair representation.  Over the next few weeks, BVM will be on the ground educating, mobilizing and galvanizing Black voters in multiple counties to ensure that Florida’s Black population is truly represented in Tallahassee and that state lawmakers are responsive to the needs of their communities. We will be making our second stop of our tour tonight in Orange County, FL. [JOIN US TONIGHT]( [CHECK OUT OUR UPCOMING TOUR STOPS](   August was a Busy Month for BVM From bus tours to teach in’s and more, each month BVM is engaged in important activism work on the ground. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up, so we’ve created our Wrap-Up Report where you can read all about what we accomplished in the past month. [READ MORE](   Support our POWER building work The water crisis in Mississippi underscores the importance of supporting Black voters in rural communities where they are often neglected and told they don’t matter. BVM is committed to showing Black voters that they matter 365 and that we will be on the ground to support our communities when they need us most.  [Donate now to support our power-building work!]( [DONATE]( JOIN THE MOVEMENT [Support voter engagement and capacity-building through our 501c3]( [Support voter mobilization and political advocacy through our 501c4]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [Tumblr]( [Black Voters Matter logo]( Black Voters Matter Fund is dedicated to expanding Black voter engagement and increasing progressive power through movement-building and engagement. Working with grassroots organizations, specifically in key states in the South, BVMF seeks to increase voter registration and turnout, advocate for policies to expand voting rights/access, and help develop infrastructure where little or none exists to support a power-building movement that keeps Black voters and their issues at the forefront of our election process.
