With Justice Breyer retiring, we think it’s time a Black Woman to fill his seat. [Black Voters Matter logo]( Friend, This week, Justice Breyer announced his retirement from the Supreme Court bench. We think it’s time a Black Woman filled the seat. On the campaign trail, President Biden promised Black voters that he would nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court - a first in its 233-year history. With this news of Justice Breyer’s retirement and with Democratic majorities in both the U.S. House and Senate, President Biden can now make that promise a reality. Democratic control of the Senate, which would not be possible without Black voters, means that this nomination can move through even without any Republican support. With the stakes higher than ever, an appointment of a Black Woman, who has a record of supporting civil rights and voting rights, to the highest court of this country will help solidify his promises and ensure Black communities are continued to be stripped of our rights.
