[Black Voters Matter logo]( Friend, More than a year into our fight for voting rights, new voter suppression tactics continue to pop up across the country. That's why our folks are in the field and on the frontlines, fighting these tactics every step of the way. In Lincoln County, GA local officials have been working to reduce the number of county polling places from seven locations to just a single location. This is in a county where lack of internet service makes requesting absentee ballots and accessing voter information a significant challenge for many residents. Last week we joined organizers, community members, and voting rights organizations (Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, Common Cause Georgia, New Georgia Project, Black Voters Matter, SPLC Action Fund, and ACLU of Georgia) in Lincoln County to deliver petitions to the Lincoln Board of Elections and put an end to their efforts to block access to the polls. Our efforts [were a success](. Over 600 signatures gathered to meet the 20% threshold across 3 precincts. This stopped the plan to reduce polling locations in its tracks. As the scourge of voting restrictions continues to spread across the country, we continue to fight back at all levels - from demanding Federal legislation, to combatting unjust practices at the local level. Help Us Protect Democracy Election officials in Lincoln County, GA have recently proposed closing all but one polling place in the county. Located in a rural community with little public transportation, this will make it even harder for poor and marginalized people to vote, as they won't be able to get to the polls. Proposed legislation like this is just one example of ongoing voter suppression targeted at black communities. Please join us in the fight to save democracy!
