[Black Voters Matter logo]( Friend, Yesterday, for the first time, the President called on the Senate to amend the filibuster to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. President Biden’s speech was one written by the power of movement. And after nearly a year of Capitol Hill protests, White House demonstrations, letters, petitions, and civil disobedience from voting rights activists demanding action, his speech is certainly a step in the right direction. But it is just a first step. Our voting rights are not political currency, nor can they be protected simply by speaking about protection. Even as Senate Majority Leader Schumer brings the issue to a vote in the coming days, the President has failed to name the two biggest obstacles to voting rights within his own Senate caucus — Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. That’s why we stand resolute in our demand for action. And we won’t be quiet until Washington has acted to protect our voting rights. [READ OUR STATEMENT](   MLK DAY ACTIONS This year for Martin Luther King Jr. day, on Monday, January 17, voting rights are in focus.
