We anticipate restoring many services in the next few weeks, but some disruption may persist for longer. Following confirmation that this was a ransomware attack, weâre aware that some data has been leaked. While this appears to be from our internal HR files, we recommend that if you have a British Library login with a password that you use elsewhere, you change it on other sites as a precautionary measure. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) provides [guidance on staying secure online](, including how to create a strong password. In the meantime, weâve taken targeted protective measures to ensure the integrity of our systems, and weâre continuing to investigate the attack with the support of NCSC, the Metropolitan Police and cybersecurity specialists. Our buildings are open as normal and weâre keeping our blog updated with the latest information on whatâs available. This includes: - Reading Rooms (for personal study)

- access to collection items held on the open shelves in the Reading Rooms
- very limited, manual collection item ordering in London via our printed catalogues, for general collection items stored in St Pancras
- Reader Registration â however, weâre currently only able to issue temporary passes
