The subject reached out to me in March. She'd just started her last job and planned to return to school. Quite a bit happened between the time we spoke and when I finally wrote the story. Why didn’t the story happen in March? Sometimes, I do interviews and just bank them somewhere until I figure out how best to write them. This was one of those stories. I decided to figure it out last week because I was on leave. At the time, I didn't even know she was now unemployed. I guess something drew me to listen to our conversation again. And that was it. She was like, "At my big age and salary?" She packed her things and left, which was easy because she'd already paid for an apartment. I had a good laugh over that. But I find it interesting (and maybe even smart) that she knows when to be independent and when to leverage her privilege.
