[View in browser]( Hi {EMAIL}, Growing up, Kay Akinwunmi saw his mother pay exorbitant rates when sending money from the UK to Nigeria. This wasn't just a Nigeria problem - he further observed that remittances into Africa were a costly and complex process. So in 2016, he built a chatbot that showed parallel market rates in order to help people negotiate better deals with foreign exchange agents. He showed the bot to his friends who liked the idea because it solved the problem of finding the rates for their money transfers. Today, that bot has morphed into something bigger - Zazuu, a money transfer comparison engine that lets people find the best fees on remittances to Africa. In the first half of 2021, Zazuu had raised half a million dollars from institutional early-stage investors and angel investors. But there's still so much more to come. This Friday on #BuildingFromGroundUp, Kelechi Njoku, Senior Editor at TechCabal will be speaking with Kay on what it took to build Zazuu, the biggest lessons he has learned from building in the African fintech industry, the most interesting challenges he has faced, and what the future looks like for the company.
